St. Mary Catholic Church first sponsored a school that was run by Kate Collins. Eight years later, in 1880, St. Mary Catholic School was initiated. The Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg arrived around 1882 to establish and teach in St. Mary Catholic School. St. Mary Catholic School has over 150 years of experience providing Catholic education. While many things have changed over the years at the school, the core beliefs and frameworks upon which the school was built remain the same. Christ and His teachings remain the foundation of the school's curriculum and practice.
Today, St. Mary Catholic School serves as the only Catholic school in Rush County. The school has been home to many in the county, including both youth parishioners of St. Mary Catholic Church and youth who are non-parishioners. We are a great choice for a faith-focused education for children. We offer vouchers and scholarships to help families offset the cost of tuition at St. Mary Catholic School. Many children who attend St. Mary's receive an education at no cost to their families.
